My sister, mom, and I wore Garish Gal clothing for the pictures-kind of by force, kind of not! I loved that each of us could find something that we felt comfortable & looked good in! That is what my aim is for Garish Gal-any age, any style, & any body type can find something they love!

Spring Trend Report 2015

If you are like me, you are SO over cold winter weather and dreaming of warm sweetness. Around this time I am always looking to update my wardrobe with fresh spring pieces and check out which new spring trends work for me.

This spring (and what feels like almost every spring) Midi Skirts, Florals, and pastels are going to be dominating the trend market.

Midi Skirts are great for the spring because they easily transition from work to weekend. You can dress them up with heels or go for the more casual look with sandals or flats. Two of my favorite styles of midi skirts are the gathered pleat and knife pleated bodies. The gathered pleat is great because it is fit around the waist and flares out, creating a great fit for any shape. I also really like the knife pleat because of the pretty and delicate look it creates, adding subtle volume. Florals for spring- groundbreaking, I know! I am not usually the floral kind of girl, but I really love a floral with a black background. I tend to gravitate to blacks and whites, so a floral with a black ground really meshes with my style. It also allows the floral print to pop more! A black ground also makes it easy to transition from spring to summer and even into fall, making the piece very transitional! pastels for blog post

Pastels are a trend that we have started to see not only in the spring, but also slipping into the fall trends (as it was pretty huge last fall). For the spring, finding the right balance of pastels is imperative to look on trend and not like an Easter egg. I really like light pinks, corals, and light blues. Gingham prints are also another really fun and easy trend we are going to see for spring. This print is often thought of as picnic like and hard to wear. However, with super cute silhouettes like these, it makes the trend easy and updated. It is a great way to look flirty and fashion forward!

5 Valentine’s Day Outfit Picks

Whether you have that perfect someone to spend Valentine’s day with or not, you deserve to splurge on yourself! While my special someone happens to be dinner with my best friend, I still plan on rocking a great look!

I’ve never really been into Valentine’s Day, I am one of those people that believe I should be treated amazing every day and not just one day of the year (and of course vice versa). I’ve decided this V-Day is about loving myself and those who have been by my side every step of the way instead!

My best friend has been my rock for 15 years and I am SO proud of the women we have become over the past year. So its time to celebrate our love of ourselves and our friendship, to celebrate the challenges we have faced and overcome by each others’ sides, and to look forward to our futures. Sure we may be single, but loving yourself is the first step into being able to truly love others when it comes to a relationship. Hi, my name is Jennifer and I would definitely say I’m a garish gal. My personality is very loud and spontaneous, but I am not very girly. Growing up with three older brothers, I have always been kind of a tomboy. I was never really into fashion, but as a new college graduate it has become more important to me.

I would describe my style as plain Jane, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to dress up every now and again! The Garish Gal blog is a constant reference for me. When I am not sure how to wear something or what I should wear, I know I can always find inspiration on the Garish Gal Blog. Garish gal has plenty of clothing items to fit every personality type, even mine.

This blue long sleeve top is a perfect casual piece to go with my favorite kind of bottoms: jeans. The crochet-like open shoulder adds a sexy touch without being too revealing. This shirt could be worn on so many occasions in every season of the year.

This romper is one of the most comfortable clothing items I’ve ever worn. It could be very casual alone, or you can dress it up with a jacket or fun jewelry. I love that I can wear this piece in the winter and transition it into the summer.

This teal skirt is my absolute favorite. It’s bright color shows my bold personality and can draw attention from across the room. The love the way it accentuates my waist, and the pleats add a fun touch to the material.

Needless to say, Garish Gal makes finding and wearing great fashion easy. Even for people that aren’t totally into fashion, there is always something I can find that I love!

1. Pleated Midi Skirt– A lot of readers have asked how to wear a midi skirt without aging your look. Finding a great midi skirt can be challenging! 3. Pleather Shift Dress– This is one of my favorite dresses in my closet. I literally wear it all the time. In warmer weather I throw on a pair of heels and wear it to dinner. Since the Midwest chill has set in, I usually throw on tights, a cardigan, and a scarf to warm up my look (like pictured below). 4. Envelope Skirt– I love this update to the pencil skirt. Still work appropriate, but also sexy- this skirt is a great wardrobe add. Alexander Wang has a beautiful blue envelope skirt that the model is casually wearing. This skirt body is great because it can be worn to work, or worn as a casual look. Alexander Wang has a similar version that will cost you a pretty penny to test out this trend.

There’s nothing more I love to do than make my Christmas List!

I don’t care how old I am, I will always have a blast making my List & checking it twice (three times, four!)!!

1. Lady in Red– This pleated red dress is the perfect mix of sexy and sweet. The fit and flare body creates a great shape flattering dress that works for each unique body type. I love throwing on a fur vest, blazer, or fur jacket on with this piece. Adding fur is a great way to elevate the piece for a holiday or work party.

2. Fuzzy Sweater– AMAZINGLY comfortable, soft, and warm! This sweater is a great wardrobe staple for the winter weather. The pants fit as a straight leg that hit right at the ankle. The mesh back creates a sexy feel, but still covers up a strapless bra!

4. Metallic Top– This holiday season metallic is everywhere!! However, if you aren’t sure about this trend, investing in a crop like the above for a great price is a great way. I love pairing this top with the Rise & Shine Midi Skirt. This would also look amazing with a solid black pencil skirt (like here).

5. Midi Skirts– These midi skirts are to die for! I love how simple they are to wear. You can even transition these into your spring wardrobe. You can throw on a sweater with these midis and wear them to work with a blouse. Another great way to wear midi skirts is to combine them with crop tops! 8. Statement Tops– Statement tops are an easy way to create an outfit for work or play. They can dress up a great pair of denim for a day at work or throw over a pair of leggings, knee high boots, and a blazer for a fun night out look. The sequin one is a great color way to pair back to most any bottoms. I love the back detailing on the rose top, but you also should check out this amazing mixed media tweed top.

Trend Reporting: Athleisure Wear

One of the cutest, but possibly hardest trends to wear right now is athleisure.

Athleisure wear is clothing that is gym to the office chic.

Top brands like Chanel have kicked off the trend with their Fall 2014 ad campaign that shows models in chic gym clothing.

So how can you rock this trend? Easy!

At Garish Gal we have quite a few pieces that are on trend.

We have a Blank NYC faux leather version that is great for adding edge to this look. These I love pairing with a graphic tee or a fun sweater for colder days.

We also have another style from Jack by BB Dakota that is a french terry sweat track pant. They look great with a solid blouse and our Ganley faux leather jacket.

Garish Gal Does Halloween

As a Garish Gal, I love the idea of being creative and coming up with a fun Halloween costume.

The older I get, the less I feel like dressing in something funny or overly sexy.

So here are a few fun ways to dress up for Halloween the Garish Gal way.

FYI- All of the props (i.e hats, swords, gold coins) are from the dollar section at Target!

Pirate: I love this look (mainly because this is what I will be wearing!!). The leather skirt really goes well with what a pirate would wear! By adding the pirate accessories, we finish off the look!

Devil: This is a different take to the typical devil. Red is a hard color for me to wear, so by adding the black leather hot shorts and ivory fur vest to the cross back blouse, it creates a different but still sexy devil look. The devil headband is a look finisher!

Army Girl: This is SO cute! The camo blouse, pleather ivory perfect tank, and the black skater skirt is a fun way to be a contemporary army gal! Add an army hat and a killer pair of boots to complete this look!

Ring Leader: This look so reminds me of the Britney Spears song, so of course I am in love! The gold lurex jacquard shorts, perfect tank, ring leader hat, and a pair of heels make for a perfect look!

Frankenstein: Who says Frankenstein can’t be hot? These jogger leather track pants and black fur vest are great way to beat the cold weather for Halloween. Finish the look with the Frankenstein mask & our pretty cream blouse!

Cop: Leather & Handcuffs are the perfect cop combination. This black pleather jacket, black and white blouse, and pleather shorts are an updated cop outfit! Instead of grabbing bracelets, grab handcuffs & a police hat to complete the look!
